In BC, there’s more to a links adventure than putts and par. Indeed, in Canada’s westernmost province, activity beyond 18 iron-worthy holes can inspire, and even encourage the adventure-minded to take things up a notch.

To start, Pemberton’s Big Sky Golf Club expertly blends time on the green with adrenalin-thumping pursuits. On the roster: Heli Golf packages pair a 30-minute whirlybird tour, including views of Mount Currie, with winning play at the course, while the club’s Fins & Skins adventure package is sure to lure with one round of golf at Big Sky, a second round at nearby Meadows Golf Club, a half day of casting with the pros at Fish Finder of Pemberton and two nights at cosy Pemberton Valley Lodge.

In the province’s vine-rich Okanagan near Vernon, Predator Ridge has mastered the art of stay and play with retreats that call for an inner calm — and a glass of Riesling. The resort’s two-night Vino & Vinyasa Weekend Yoga Retreats encourage participants to strike a pose with a certified yoga instructor, while tasty menus and a guided tour to sip reds and whites at Arrowleaf Cellars, Ex Nihilo Vineyards and Gray Monk Estate Winery round out a stellar stay. Predator Ridge offers even more to entice, particularly for those eager to hone their skill with their best four-legged pals. Dog-friendly tee times begin Sundays after 4 p.m. (participants must adhere to strict canine policies), and with more than 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) of walking and hiking trails, a private dog park and pooch-friendly patios, shopping and accommodation,  Predator Ridge promises adventure worthy of man’s best friend.

Further northeast in Golden, the aptly named Golden Golf Club combines manicured fairways with untouched wilderness. Indeed, this 18-hole challenge, set between the Purcell and Rocky Mountain ranges, inspires golfers to soak in the scenery (think pretty, tree-lined fairways and holes that are embraced by natural forest) with its popular All You Can Play — Everyday offering. For one green fee, it really is that simple; devotees can drive and putt to their heart’s content. To mix it up, adventurers can opt for Golf & Raft packages, an outing that combines one round with a Glacier Raft Company adventure along the Kicking Horse River — a wild, splashy ride that revels in class III and IV rapids and finishes with a homemade barbecue lunch.
